AMC 2019 - Connect with Peers through Adventure

Posted on Thursday, July 11, 2019

Picture this: You’re strolling in a quaint town on the Oregon coast.  Families are chatting nearby as they traipse in and out of shops, and you can hear the ocean lapping against the shore in the distance. You approach the end of the block and see the green landscape rolling along the shore before it drops into the Pacific Ocean.  This scene is waiting for you at the 2019 All Members Conference in Portland, Oregon!

During the bonus Whales and Marine Science Tour on Sunday, September 22, you can bond with your ARCS peers in the beautiful countryside and connect as you travel the Oregon coast.

This tour includes a firsthand look into the Oregon State University Hatfield Marine Science Center with Mary Lou and Bruce Mate. Bruce is a director of the Whale Telemetry Group in the Marine Mammal Institute and a recognized whale expert.  As the only Institute of its kind, the Marine Mammal Institute combines the efforts of top researchers from around the world to continue the legacy of discovery and preservation. Mary Lou is a long-time member of the ARCS Oregon Chapter.

After visiting the Institute, you’ll savor a delicious lunch at the Chowder Bowl at Nye Beach in Newport.  Finally, you’ll travel to the northern end of the Newport area and witness an iconic lighthouse, gaze out over the Pacific, and settle in for whale watching from the coast.
