For Stephanie Hachey, PhD, receiving an ARCS Foundation Scholar award during the final two years of her doctoral studies at the University of California, Irvine, marked the beginning of a lasting relationship with ARCS.

Today, Hachey is an assistant project scientist at UC Irvine and CEO of ImmunoTarget Therapeutics. She conducts cancer research focused on precision oncology using AI-driven technology to identify new immunotherapy targets and advance personalized treatments for patients with cancer.

As an ARCS Scholar, the award provided resources to purchase a new computer, attend scientific conferences, and build professional connections that continue to shape her career. Just as importantly, she says, it introduced her to a network of members who invested not only in her research but in her future.

"Once I received the award, I became part of a community that's poised to support Scholars from the time they're recognized throughout their careers," she says.

After earning her PhD, Hachey chose to stay involved with the organization that had supported her journey. Today, she serves as Vice President of University and Scholar Relations for the Orange County Chapter, helping connect current Scholars with the same opportunities and encouragement she once received.

As research funding grows increasingly competitive, Hachey believes ARCS plays a vital role in supporting the next generation of scientific innovators.

"I want to pay back what was given to me," she says. "Supporting the next generation of scientists is something I'm passionate about."
