Each year, ARCS chapters select one member to be recognized for providing the highest quality of long-time service to her chapter. The distinctive ARCS Light Award recognizes recipients for continuous service that has made a positive impact on ARCS Foundation and its mission of advancing science in America. These unsung heroes of ARCS Foundation are honored at the ARCS Foundation All ARCS Conference.

2025 ARCS Light Honorees

Sally McDaniel
Atlanta

A dedicated ARCS Atlanta member since 2009, Sally McDaniel has provided sustained leadership in chapter and national fund development. She has served on the Atlanta board and National Board of Directors, chaired major committees, and helped grow the ARCS endowment while strengthening donor engagement and membership.

Susan Howard
Colorado

Susan Howard joined the Colorado Chapter after returning to the state and has since served in several leadership roles, including President, Scholar Relations Chair, and liaison to the Colorado School of Mines. A strong advocate for ARCS and its Scholars, she has helped strengthen chapter operations while honoring its longstanding traditions. 

Sui-Lan Ellsworth
Honolulu

A longtime Honolulu Chapter board member, Sui-Lan Ellsworth is recognized for her reliable service and advocacy for science education and research. She has supported countless chapter activities—from welcoming guests to enhancing scholar events—and brought creativity to her roles, including producing personalized donor acknowledgements as recording secretary.

Jane Hays
Illinois

Jane Hays was instrumental in bringing the University of Illinois into ARCS Chicago and the formation of the Illinois Chapter. A board member, advisor, donor, and active volunteer, she has provided strategic and financial guidance while supporting ARCS and her community through leadership and service.

Peggy Vogt
Los Angeles

Peggy Vogt serves as a board member of the ARCS Los Angeles Founding Chapter and is a leader in innovation and technology within the water sector. Through her work managing Metropolitan’s H2O TECHCONNECT and IdeaScale programs, she fosters collaboration between industry, entrepreneurs, and researchers while supporting initiatives that advance technology and economic development. 

Anne Wingo
Metro Washington

Anne Wingo joined the Metro Washington Chapter in 2016 and is recognized for her steady commitment to ARCS Scholars and STEM education. A mentor and advocate for advanced science education, she recently completed a long tenure as co-chair of the University Relations Council and continues to support scholars through her thoughtful leadership. 

Tina Bartlett Hinckley
Northern California

Since joining in 2008, Tina Bartlett Hinckley has been a welcoming and dedicated leader in Northern California, serving multiple terms as Vice President of Membership. She fosters strong community through member outreach and hospitality, including hosting new member events, and contributes enthusiastically to all chapter activities.

Mia Fujii
Orange County

Mia Fujii, an electrical engineering graduate of UC Irvine, has spent more than 20 years in industry leadership. As an advisory board member for the Orange County Chapter, she leads events and brings creativity and professional insight that have helped create engaging and inspiring Scholar programs. 

Elizabeth Bell
Oregon

An ARCS Oregon member since 2013, Elizabeth Bell has served in numerous leadership roles including Secretary, Treasurer, President, and fundraising chair. A strategic thinker and generous donor, she has strengthened chapter finances, planning, and growth while championing ARCS’s mission and scholars.

Sharon Ponce
Phoenix

Sharon Ponce joined the Phoenix Chapter in 2017 and has been a dedicated contributor to its growth and operations. She has served as Website Administrator for most of her tenure, supported chapter events, and served for five years on the National Information Strategies Committee. She currently serves as Director of Scholar Alumni Relations and participates in the national Scholar Relations Collaboration Network. 

Angie Maher
Pittsburgh

Angie Maher joined the Pittsburgh Chapter board in 2012 and has contributed decades of nonprofit financial leadership to ARCS and many regional organizations. A Chartered Financial Analyst and former healthcare and banking executive, she applies her expertise to advance ARCS’s mission and support future STEM leaders.

Ingrid Benirschke-Perkins
San Diego

Since joining in 2017, Ingrid Benirschke-Perkins has elevated San Diego’s communications and scholar engagement as Vice President of Marketing & Communications. She expanded chapter visibility, chaired major events, and created a comprehensive scholar alumni directory that informed national efforts.

Amy Rudolf
Seattle

An ARCS Seattle member since 2007, Amy Rudolf has held multiple chapter leadership roles including President, VP of Development, and VP of Finance, and served on the National Board as VP Finance. A respected nonprofit leader and donor, she has strengthened governance, consensus-building, and financial stewardship across ARCS.
