Minnesota Chapter ARCS Foundation, Scientist of the Year
Professor Robert Tranquillo, PhD,
Professor of Biomedical Engineering, University of Minnesota
Distinguished McKnight University Professor
Former Chair, Biomedical Engineering Department, 2000-2019
This year we are honoring Professor Robert Tranquillo PhD, as the Minnesota Chapter of ARCS Foundation Scientist of the Year. Dr. Tranquillo is being honored for his nearly 20-year tenure as Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He has been a consistent supporter of ARCS in Minnesota.
Professor Tranquillo will discuss his ground-breaking research developing biologically engineered “off-the-shelf” vascular grafts, heart valves, and vein valves. What is particularly exciting is that they have shown their material, produced by skin cells, actually has the capacity to grow, with the potential to transform the treatment of pediatric congenital heart defects.
