ARCS Foundation Portland Chapter Renamed as ARCS Foundation Oregon

Posted on Thursday, July 7, 2016

Name change reflects statewide expansion of both program support and chapter membership

Portland Oregon, July 6, 2016. Achievement Rewards for College Scientists, Inc. Portland Chapter, (ARCS Foundation Portland) announced that it will now be known as Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation, Inc., Oregon Chapter (ARCS Foundation Oregon).  The name change was effective May 11, 2016.

ARCS Foundation Oregon supports and nurtures young American women and men pursuing doctoral degrees in STEM fields at Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon State University and University of Oregon. The more than 130 women volunteers in ARCS Foundation Oregon work together to help attract brilliant young scientists who will make groundbreaking discoveries and place American scientists at the forefront of their fields to pursue their research and study in Oregon.

Oregon chapter president Joan Foley commented about the name change:
“The new name better reflects the chapter’s statewide reach, now that we support Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon State University in Corvallis, and University of Oregon in Eugene.  ARCS membership has also expanded across the state.”

ARCS Foundation expanded its funding of ARCS Scholars in Oregon in 2015 with the addition of two top-ranked departments at University of Oregon – its Department of Biology and Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry – making it the third leading research university to be supported by the chapter.
