Sue Alexopoulos’ passionate support of ARCS and the UCI Henry Samueli School of Engineering converged with the school’s creation of a new endowed Presidential Chair in electrical engineering and computer science, named in honor of Sue and her husband Nicolaos, a former Samueli School dean. Sue not only comes from a long line of engineers but, as a long-time elementary school teacher, fostered enthusiasm for STEM fields among her many students. Sue was a founding member of ARCS Foundation Orange County Chapter (which supports University of California at Irvine graduate students) and continues to play a key role in its growth, serving in a variety of roles through the years, including as President and as annual Co-Chair of the chapter’s scholar awards dinner. She and Nic have also annually sponsored a scholar. Sue has also been a member of ARCS Foundation National Board.
Chandra Jain, current President of the Orange County Chapter, says “Sue’s steadfast and ardent support of STEM education is inspiring to us all. She has truly furthered ARCS Foundation mission and enhanced America’s continued competitiveness in science and engineering.”
