With 15 Chapters stretching from coast to coast, the ARCS Foundation welcomes all new members. Each Chapter welcomes women who can contribute time, talent, and enthusiasm to the mission of “advancing science in America.” 

Chapter Engagement launched a friendly Invite to Ignite challenge to motivate Chapters to prioritize membership recruitment.

Invite to Ignite rewards the top three chapters with a cash prize for raising their dues-paying membership by the highest percentage over the course of a year with a cash prize.

The 2023-2024 Invite to Ignite Winners 

1st place – Honolulu (34.8% increase)

2nd place - Illinois (19.4% increase)

3rd place – Los Angeles (17.3% increase)

 
Congratulations to the Honolulu Chapter for winning this year's challenge. The Chapter will receive $2,000.
 
Right behind Honolulu, the Illinois chapter had a 25% increase, earning them $1,500, and Los Angeles experienced 22% growth and will receive $1,000. The funds will be used toward a membership recruitment, retention, or appreciation event.

How did the Honolulu chapter succeed? Cheryl Ernest, Co-Chapter President, says:

“Personal contact is the key. Being a small chapter, the participation of every current member in identifying and contacting potential members is essential, and every new member has a big impact. We looked to friends and professional colleagues who share our interest in things scientific and commitment to education, as well as individuals who had recently moved to the area and wanted to make social contacts.” The Chapter looked for ways to involve new members immediately.

“Of course, having an effervescent Membership vice president who is hard to say no to doesn't hurt! Patty Lee's—dare we say—pestering brought a former member back into the fold, and her persistence in espousing the rewards of interacting with amazing young scientists to golf buddies, bridge partners, book club members, and anyone else who would listen, really paid off.”
