We’re pleased to share feedback from Kunal Parikh and Louis N. Schoettle, two Roche/ARCS Scholars, on the prestigious Roche symposium, "Increasing Drug Development Success," that they attended in New York on November 2-3, 2015. Invited by Roche to attend, Kunal and Louis participated alongside 100 of the world’s top scientists.
Kunal:
“Improving the drug discovery and development process is one of the most important ongoing endeavors within the pharmaceutical industry. Perfecting it would save billions of dollars and provide patients with quicker and more inexpensive access to a greater number of efficacious therapies. The Roche Symposium was a tremendous opportunity to meet and learn from global leaders in quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP). Moreover, the candid conversations and case studies served to further elucidate the translational process, which will prove invaluable as I begin driving my own technologies from bench to bedside.”Louis:
“The Roche symposium was an amazing gathering of quantitative systems biologists (among others) offering insights into how QSP can be applied not only to clinical research but also to fundamental studies for improvement of initial project design, implementation of acquired data, and the development of models to predict potential outcomes. As a fundamental immunologist, these insights provided a more complete understanding of how to model immune cell systems and how to predict response to infection. Systems biology offers an avenue for maintaining balance between available funding and time while conducting sufficient experiments to validate hypotheses.”
