Veteran conservationist Suzanne Case will speak at a free, hybrid pau hana event on Thursday, August 29 on the topic, "My Life in Conservation: From Nature Conservancy to the University of Hawai‘i." From aquatic resources to watershed protection, veteran conservationist Suzanne Case brings extensive experience in Hawai‘i environmental policy and practice to her latest role as inaugural director of the University of Hawai‘i’s Office of Land and Ocean Conservation Futures. UH recently became the first university to sign a memorandum of understanding to provide environmental research expertise to the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators, and Case will responsible for connecting NCEL members with university experts. NCEL is a non-partisan resource network of more than 1,200 state legislators from all 50 states working to protect, conserve, and improve the natural and human environment around regional and issue-specific projects.

Trained as an attorney, Case spent 28 years with The Nature Conservancy and 7 years as chair of the Hawai‘i Board of Land and Natural Resources and director of the Department of Land and Natural Resources. She has co-chaired the Sustainable Hawaiʻi Initiative; Hawaiʻi Climate Adaptation, and Mitigation Commission; and Hawaiʻi Invasive Species Committee and served on the state Board of Agriculture and Kahoʻolawe Island Reserve Commission.
